Saturday was certainly a Momentous Day for the League as it was the 70th Anniversary of the league kicking off on Saturday 16th October 1948.

On that day the Fixture list of games to be played was as follows:

Summerfield Swifts              v              Cookstown Junction

Creavamoy                            v              Galgorm

Cullybackey United             v              Harryville Amateurs

Moyola Park                         v              Kentullagh

Ahoghill                                v              RUR (T.A.)

Cromkill                                 v              Connor

Randalstown YC and Raceview United were playing in the County Antrim Junior Shield

Galgorm withdrew from the league prior to the matches being played

Raceview United withdrew from the league in November 1948

Cookstown Junction were dismissed from the league in December 1948 for failing to fulfil fixtures


At the end of the season Moyola Park won the Title with Connor Runners-up

Summerfield Swifts defeated Moyola Park 2-1 thanks to goals scored by Jim McCartney and Willie Adair in the first-half to won the O’Gorman Cup Final.

Arrangements were made at the October Meeting for the representative game Town Players v Country Players on Christmas Morning @ Ballymena Showground’s kick off 11.00pm 





                CHIMNEY CORNER                          0              BANGOR              7

The Corner played well during the first-half restricting Bangor to a single goal lead scored by Ethan Boylan before half-time. With an hour played the Corner were still in the game then Ethan Boylan scored his second goal on the 66th minute and completed his hat-trick on the 74th minute. After this it was Bangor calling the shots with goals scored by Abiola Sinusi on the 79th minute, Keith Armstrong 85th, Kyle Woods 88th and Neil Graham 89th minutes.     Referee Mr. Noel Crossan


                                DESERTMARTIN               2              BALLYNURE OB                1

After their draw the previous Saturday against Glebe Rangers Desertmartin went into the game with high hopes. Ballynure had other ideas and went in front after Kyle Agnew scored on the 4th minute of the game. Chances came and went after this and at half-time the single goal divided the teams. The second half saw Desertmartin push for the equaliser but Ballynure stood firm until Mark Shields scored the equaliser on the 80th minute. Both teams went for the winning goal after this and on the 88th minute it went the way of Desertmartin after Mark Scott scored.                   Referee Mr. Darren Hylands


                                                     McREYNOLDS CUP 1ST ROUND

                COOKSTOWN YOUTH                    4              BRANTWOOD       3 (After Extra Time)

Brantwood will wonder how they let a three goals lead slip past but the Youth will look back on a great fight-back. Brantwood went in front after Curtis Dempster scored on the 13th minute then added a second goal after Gareth McAuley scored on the 50th minute. Brantwood went three goals clear after Curtis Dempster scored his second goal on the 76th minute. Danny McIlhatton pulled a goal back for the Youth on the 78th minute followed by a second scored by Adam Keane on the 85th minute. The game then went into stoppage time with Steven McGuckin scoring the equaliser for the Youth on the 94th minute. Extra-time was then played and with the game in the 105th minute Kiefer Scott was brought down in the box resulting in Drew Kelley converting the penalty and winner for the Youth.                               Referee Mr. Ronnie Allen


                St JAMES SWIFTS                            1              GLEBE RANGERS              4

This was a big game for the Swifts against Glebe Rangers who are unbeaten this season. Glebe went on the attack early taking the lead after Chris Nicholl scored on the 16th minute. Glebe pushed forward again after this with Chris Nicholl scoring his second goal on the 34th minute giving Glebe a two goal lead at half-time. The Swifts got back into the game after Sean Pat Donnelly scored on the 76th minute then went all-out for the equaliser. Glebe held firm at the back then breaking clear with Ian Christie scoring number three for Glebe on the 84th minute. The Swifts had to throw caution to the wind after this and got caught with Aaron Weir nipping in to score a fourth for Glebe on the 90th minute.                Referee Mr. Matthew Gilchrist


                COAGH UNITED                                4              COOKSTOWN RBL          1 (After Extra Time)

The First ninety minute of this game was a nip and tuck affair with the team’s level at one each before extra-time was played. Dan McKinless put Coagh in front after 23 minutes then they had a man sent off but at half-time the single goal divided the teams. RBL got back on level terms after Willie Lee scored on the 66th minute. With no more goals extra-time was introduced and goals scored by James Tumlety on the 103rd and 115th minutes and Diogo Inacio on the 119th minute Coagh progressed to the next round.  Referee Mr. Conor Murphy

Sports got off to great start taking the lead on the 3rd minute after Jason Cosgrove scored then saw Ballyclare come back to equalise after Dylan Rea scored on the 16th minute. Ballyclare then went in front after Andy Gilmore scored on the 28th minute and this goal divided the teams at half-time. The second half saw plenty of chances but no more goals were scored.                 FC WHITEABBEY                              1              WOODLANDS    3

Woodlands good start to the season continued on Saturday with this win over Whiteabbey. In a very close first-half the only goal was scored by Thomas Ogilvie on the 44th minute that put Woodlands in front at the break. No more goals were scored until Alex Haggan and Stewart McCullough scored for Woodlands on the 73rd and 83rd minute putting Woodlands three goals clear. Whiteabbey to their credit never gave up getting a goal after Sean Cowler scored on the 90th minute.               Referee Mr. Samuel Forsythe



                68th NEWTOWNABBEY OB ‘A’     5              BRANTWOOD-LOUGHSIDE          1

Brantwood went in front after Luke Watters scored on the 18th minute then Tom Dougan cancelled this lead after he scored on the 34th minute. Newtownabbey went in front after Kyle Mann scored on the 55th minute and added to this with goals scored by Davy Blair 61st, Glenn Cleland 66th and Tom Irvine 77th minutes to record a good win.        Referee Mr. Charlie Pollock


                COOKSTOWN RBL RES                  4              ANTRIM ROVERS SWIFTS            3

The Swifts went in front after Marcus Catherwood scored on the 4th minute then Julio Marcos equalised for RBL on the 10th minute. Marcus Catherwood scored his second goal on the 18th minute putting the Swifts back in front. RBL replied to this with a brace of goals scored by Jonny Taylor on the 41st and 43rd minutes. RBL extended their lead after Ray Greer scored on the 72nd minute. Time was almost up when Jon Burton scored the Swifts third goal on the 89th minute.                 Referee Mr Ian Shiels


                NORTHEND UNITED YOUTH         1              KILLYMOON RANGERS 2

After a bright start by the young Northend team Mark Campbell put them in front on the 15th minute with a well placed free kick. Killymoon a much more experienced team than Northend got back level before the break with a goal scored by Trevor Brownlee. The second half was a nip and tuck affair then on the 75th minute Robert Allen scored what proved to be the winning goal for Killymoon.        Referee Mr. Bert Purdy

Clough took the lead after Ricky Ross converted a penalty on the 15th minute and doubled their advantage after Eddie Manson scored on the 33rd minute. Clough went three goals clear after Ricky Ross scored his second goal in the game on the 43rd minute giving Clough a clear lead at half-time. Mallusk tried hard to get back into the game in the second half but Clough kept their goal intact for the win.            Referee Mr. Brian Patterson

Red Star took the lead after Michael Rankin scored the a brace of goals scored by James Brown saw the United in front at half-time. Four more goals in the second half scored by Blair Hunter, Sean Derry, Niall Stewart and John Donnelly wrapped up the win.             Referee Mr. Trevor Higgins.

Rathcoole went two goals clear in the first-half scored by Ross Watters before Ryan Leitch pulled a goal back for North End before half-time. The second half saw Rathcoole score three ,more goals through Jordan Bright, Jordan Armstrong and Taylor Black against one for North End scored by Craig McDowell.

                WHITEHEAD RANGERS                   10           68th NEWTOWNABBEY OB ‘ B’    1

Whitehead went in front after Noel Williams scored on the 7th minute. Glenn Hastings scored number two on the 13th minute then five more goals scored by Chris Cassel on the 20th, 27th and 37 to complete his hat-trick and John Williams on the 22nd and 42nd minutes saw the Rangers seven goals clear at the break. Three more goals were scored by Noel Williams, John Williams and Stuart Thomson before Eddie Bell ran fully for 70 yards before dispatching the ball into the Rangers net for a superb goal on the 80th minute.

Carrick led by two goals at half-time then made it four nil before James Mellon converted a penalty for Carnlough. The Athletic scored another two goals for a good win on teh day.                Referee Mr. Brian Leitch

The young Brantwood team were up against a more experienced home team conceding four goals and scoring one themselves through Tyler McMaster

The result of this game was decided in extra-time after the teams were level on three goals each after ninety minutes. Newington goals were scored by Daniel Moore (4) and Paul McAuley (2).

The Olympic never really got going in this game and went on to concede four goals though they possibly could have had a couple themselves

The home side took the lead on the 5th minute then Kyle Abernethy equalised for Ballynure before half-time. The second half saw the home side take their chances whereas Ballynure did not.


                                ANTRIM ROVERS             3              CARNINY RANGERS        5

Carniny went in front on the 3rd minute then Tommy Bownes equalised for Antrim on the 23rd minute. Carniny went on to score four more goals on the 29th, 36th, 37th and 75th minutes. Antrim responded with Jonny Rogers scoring a brace on the 83rd and 89th minute but by them the game was over.

This was a close game for the entire ninety minute but at the end the Colts had a two goal cushion thanks to their goals scored by Rene Matiko (2), Matthew Heagney (2) and George Dardis.

Castle went down to ten men after having a player sent off on the 25th minute. Castle then went in front after Warren Brown scored on the 40th minute and a second goal scored by Paul Garvey on the 70th minute sealed the win
