        SEASON 2016-17

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday was certainly a very good day for teams from the league:

Desertmartin beat Tobermore United 3-1 at Fortwilliam Park to reach the semi-final of the North West Craig Memorial Cup

Coagh United with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Banbridge Town reached the semi-final of the Mid-Ulster Bob Radcliffe Cup

Wakehurst reached the 2nd round of the McReynolds Cup after 2-0 win over Newtowne at Limavady.

On a more sombre note Two players were taken to hospital with suspected broken legs on Saturday, Richard King of Newtowne and Andy Beattie of Mountainview.

Everyone wishes Richard and Andy a speedy recovery from their Injuries.

                                                                                INTERMEDIATE

                                                                                        LEAGUE

                                BRANTWOOD                                   3              CHIMNEY CORNER          2

Brantwood went in front after Curtis Dempster scored on the 10th minute but were then held by a resolute Corner until Curtis Dempster scored his second goal in the game on the 53rd minute. The Corner pulled a goal back with Rene Matiko scoring on the 66th minute and were back on level terms after Rene Matiko scored his second goal on the 73rd minute. After this both teams went looking for the winning goal which went to Brantwood after Dean Blair scored on the 83rd minute.                       Referee Mr. Joshua Porter

BALLYNURE OB                                2              MAGHERAFELT SKY BLUES         3

This was a big win for the Sky Blues but was a damper for Ballynure last season’s champions who have lost three league games on the trot. Ballynure went in front after Dan Ellis scored and at half-time this goal still separated the teams. The Sky Blues drew level through a goal scored by Declan Martin then Kevin Amuneke scored putting Ballynure back in front. The Sky Blues replied to this with a goal scored by Emmett McGuckin to go level then the winner scored by Ciaran Monaghan to collect all three points at the final whistle.

Referee Mr. Peter Murray

                                                                   McREYNOLDS CUP 1st ROUND

                                NEWTOWNE                                       0              WAKEHURST     2

After a bright start from Wakehurst they went in front after Stuart Nixon who has been a great signing by Manager Cliffy Adams received a great pass from Zac Barr on the 11th minute to score. Wakehurst went on to double their lead after Conor Ross scored on the 19th minute putting them in a strong position. Newtowne were then awarded a penalty on the 28th minute but Keeper Findlay saved for his 3rd penalty save of teh season while Newtowne missed the opportunity making it five penalties missed in four games this season. The game was then stopped for a period of time due to the serious leg injury suffered by Richard King who was then taken by Ambulance to Hospital. This stoppage certainly had an effect on the payers and at the end the two goals saw Wakehurst progress through to meet Desertmartin in teh next round.                            Referee Mr. Kenny Hayton

COUNTY ANTRIM STEEL & SONS CUP 4th ROUND

MID-ULSTER BOB RADCLIFFE CUP 3rd ROUND

COAGH UNITED                 4              BANBRIDGE TOWN         2

With this win Coagh reached teh semi-final stage of teh competition and now await the draw to see who their opponents will be. Coagh certainly had the better of the play during the game and should have scored but no goals were scored at the end of normal and extra time. Penalties were then introduced which saw Coagh win by four to two.

Desertmartin had the better of the play at the start of the second half taking the lead after john Henry scored with a well placed shot. Tobermore had to chase teh game after this and this saw the Martins pick then off with Neil Smyth scoring the crucial third goal giving them a well deserved win.
