Bangor our remaining team in the Steel and Sons Cup quarter final lost out narrowly to a single goal against Crumlin United. In the County Antrim Junior Shield four teams went out and fifth Castle Star game was off due to a wet Pitch. There was better news for Desertmartin Swifts who beat Claudy United in the North West Junior Cup whir Killymoon Rangers progressed into the least Sixteen of the Mid-Ulster Shield.

                CHIMNEY CORNER                          0              COAGH UNITED 9

Coagh went two goals in front after James Fergusson scored on the 9th and 19th Minutes. Stuart Glasgow made it three nil on the 27th minute before James Ferguson brought his tally to four with goals on the 37th and 43rd minutes. The game was then in the 44th minute when Mark Taylor made it six nil on the 44th minute. Coagh scored three more goals through Mark Taylor on the 66th minute and a brace from Andrew Neil on the 81st and 88th minutes.       Referee Mr. David Kelly

 

                COOKSTOWN RBL                          0              BALLYNURE OB                0

Chances to score were at a premium in this game throughout the ninety minute resulting in the teams sharing the points at the end but unfortunately no goals.      Referee Mr Kyle Barr.

 

                COOKSTOWN YOUTH                    3              DESERTMARTIN               4

Desertmartin had the better of the opening attacking play and went two goals in front after Mark Scott and Robin Patton scored. The Youth got back into the game after Steven Arrell scored reducing the deficit to a single goal at half-time. Desertmartin restored their two goal advantage with goals scored by Mark Scott and Mark Shields before Barry Kelly scored a second goal for the Youth. Back came the Youth with Mark Megarry scoring their third goal and though they went all-out for the equaliser Desertmartin closed ranks and held out for the win.                                Referee Mr. Gerard Murray 

 

                                DUNLOY                               2              NEWTOWNE           1

Dunloy went in front after Declan McGarry scored on the 2nd minute and held this lead until Paul McIvor equalised for Newtowne on the 25th minute. Half-time was almost on the blow when Zac McConnell scored for Dunloy on the 44th minute putting them back in front. Chances came and went in the second half with both teams having chances but at the end it was the first-half goals that decided the outcome.

                                St JAMES SWIFTS            3              SOFIA FARMER   3   (Abandoned 64th minute)

After a bright start to the game Sofia went in front after Roberson Ribeiro scored on the 15th minute. St James hit back with Pat Donnelley scoring the equaliser on the 19th minute and this goal saw the team’s level at half-time. Sofia went in front for a second time after Francisco Gusmao converted a penalty on the 51st minute and went two goals clear after Inussa So scored on the 53rd minute. St James came back with Eugene Gallagher scoring on the 60th minute then got the equaliser after Steven McDonnell converted a re-taken penalty on the 62nd minute. At this time Sofia had a player dismissed for encroachment in the penalty box and it being his second yellow card he was dismissed by the referee. Two minutes later on the 64th minute the Referee was confronted by the Sofia Manager and after a verbal confrontation the referee abandoned the game. The discipline side will be decided by the IFA Disciplinary Committee and the standing of the game by the League Committee.            Referee Mr. Darren Hylands 

 

                                COUNTY ANTRIM STEEL & SONS CUP QUARTER-FINAL

 

                CRUMLIN UNITED                             1              BANGOR FC       0

This was very closely contested game for the entire ninety minutes. Chances came and went for both teams during the first half but at half-time the scoreline was still blank. It was still very tight when Crumlin forced a corner o the 65th minute which resulted on Pat McCaffrey heading the ball into the Bangor net and as a result

Won the tie for his team.

                                FC WHITEABBEY              4              3rd BALLYCLARE OB       1

Whiteabbey took an early lead in the game after Marty Cousins scored on the 4th minute.  Whiteabbey increased their lead though a well taken goal scored by Sean Cowler before Robert Clarke pulled a goal back for Ballyclare on the 53rd minute. Whiteabbey went two goals clear again after Sean Cowler scored his second goal on the 63rd minute then sealed the win after Karl Douglas scored on the 76th minute.

                                                JUNIOR DIVISIONS LEAGUE GAMES

                                                                                 ONE

                                WOODLANDS                    2              ANTRIM ROVERS             3

Antrim completed a league double over Woodlands with this win which no doubt hit the league leaders hard. The Rovers went in front after Josh Graham scored on the 20th minute then Stuart McCullough scored the equaliser for Woodlands on the 38th minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then Jordan McKelvey scored putting the Rovers back in front on the 57th minute. The Rovers increased their lead on the 71st minute when Tommy Bownes scored then Woodlands hit back with Stuart McCullough scoring his second goal on the 76th minute. Woodlands then went all-out for the equaliser but the Rovers held on to their lead until the final whistle.

                NORTHEND UNITED YOUTH         4              68th NEWTOWNABBEY OB            3

Northend went in front after Charles Allen scored on the 4th minute then Steven Cochrane made it two nil on the 30th minute. David Bowyer pulled goal back for the 68th on the 33rd minute only to see Charles Allen score his second goal in the game on the 43rd minute. Steven Cochrane scored his second goal on the 61st minute putting Northend three goals clear. The 68th hit back with David Blair scoring brace of goals on the 71st and 73rd minute but they failed to get the equalising goal.              Referee Mr. Tommy Waide

 

                ANTRIM ROVERS SWIFTS            0              CLOUGH RANGERS ATHLETIIC     6

This win takes Clough to the top of the league leader board and leaves them still undefeated in the league this term. After a steady start by both teams an own goal conceded by the Swifts saw Clough go in front on the 26th minute. This goal separated the teams at half-time then on two quick goals scored by William Dunlop 52nd minute and a penalty converted by Ricky Ross on the 56th minute saw Clough three goals clear. Ricky Ross went on to complete his hat-trick with goal on the 70th and 85th minute and a goal sandwiched in between scored by William Dunlop on the 73rd minute.                 MALLUSK ATHLETIC                      1              BRANTWOOD-LOUGHSIDE          2

Brantwood had the better of the attacking play during the fist-half going in at half-time leading by two goals scored by Zac Nicholl. The second half saw Mallusk more in the game and a goal scored by Matty Fegan saw then in with a chance of saving the game only for Brantwood closing ranks and holding out for the win.

                BALLYCLARE NORTH END           3              WHITEHEAD RANGERS  2

North End claimed the win by the odd goal in five in this game which was fairly evenly divided throughout the ninety minutes. North Ends goals were scored by Daniel Fahy, Robert Bonnes and Gareth Miller while Jonny Williams and Mark Jones replied for Whitehead.                           Referee Mr. Brian Patterson.

                68th NEWTOWNABBEY OB ‘B’     1              CARNLOUGH SWIFTS    4

After a bright start to the game Carnlough went in at half-time leading by two goals scored by Donny Wright and Fiontann Callin. Carnlough went on to double their advantage with goals scored by Matthew Pyper and Gary Montgomery before Lee Beggs converted a penalty for the 68th. Referee Mr. Ian Getty

 

                NORTH BELFAT UNITED                8              RED STAR           2

This was a high scoring game from the viewpoint of the home side but if the Star would have taken some more of their chances they may have narrowed the gap. North Belfast goals were scored by    Gareth Downey (2), Sean Derry (1), and Corey Cameron (3) James Brown (1) and Conor McWilliams (1). Red Star goals were scored by Richie Johnston and Brian Cunningham. Referee Mr. Richard Stewart

                CARRICK ATHLETIC                       4              COOKSTOWN RBL RES 0

Ryan Clawson scored on the 10th minute putting the Athletic in front then Josh Cash made it two nil on the 20th minute and this score remained until Marcin Klanczanksi made it three nil on the 40th minute. The second half saw both teams have a chance or two but only one goal was scored by Ryan Clawson on the 85th minute sealing the win for the Athletic.          Referee Mr. Trevor Higgins.  

 

                                                MID-ULSTER SHIELD 3rd ROUND

                VALLEY RANGERS RES                  3              COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC               1 (After extra-time)

The home side went in front in the first-half before Martin Montague equalised for the Olympic. With no more goals scored the game went into extra-time with the home side scoring twice to record the win.

 

                KILLYMOON RANGERS                 4              ASHGROVE         0

This was a very good win for Killymoon who lead by goals scored by Warren Smyth and Chris McNicholl at half-time. Ricky Donaghy scored a brace of goal in the second half taking Killymoon into the hat for the next round draw.

 

                                AMBASSADORS               8              COOKSTOWN YOUTH COLTS         4

This was certainly a high scoring game but unfortunately the Young Colts conceded more goals than they scored but the experience will certainly do them good.

 

                                                COUNTY ANTRIM JUNIOR SHIELD 3rd ROUND

                                WARREN YM                      2              NEWINGTON YC Res       2 (Warren win 4-1 Penalties)

Warren were in front for a long period then Niall Southam equalised for Newington late in the game taking it to extra-time. Mark Kelley scored for Newington in the extra-time and with the home side also scoring penalties were taken with the home side converting four against one by Newington.                                             

 

                                ALBERT FOUNDRY          4              SPORT & LEISURE SWIFTS RES 0

The home side were a lot more decisive around the goal area than the Sports scoring four goals without reply for a clear win.

 

CELTIC BOYS (DOWNPATRICK)                6              BRANTWOOD RES          3

Its goals that wins games and though Brantwood scored three they were outdone by the home side who scored Six to go into the next round.

Rathcoole never really got into this game and trailed by three nil until Glenn Mayne scored a late consolation goal.

This as a very good win for a very young Swifts team and goals scored by Matthew Mulholland, Michael Stewart, Ryan Brown (2) and an own goal against two conceded takes them into the next round
