        SEASON 2016-17

Carnlough Swifts booked their place in the Final of the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup on Saturday. Carnlough defeated Ballyclare North End by the odd goal in three after extra-time on Saturday and will now meet 3rd Ballyclare OB in the Final

Dunloy with a one nil away win at Chimney Corner reach the semi-final of the O’Gorman Cup where they will meet Wakehurst. It was very pleasing to see Conor McGilligan in goal for Dunloy as Conor suffered a serious Injury on the 5th November and had to have his spleen removed.

Coagh United also reach the semi-final of the O’Gorman Cup after 3-2 extra-time win over Newtowne.

On the League front Desertmartin had a very food win over Wakehurst in the Intermediate Division while Woodlands, Cookstown Youth, Newington YC Res and Rathcoole who have league Title aspirations all won in Junior One

                                DESERTMARTIN               4              WAKEHURST                     3

This was a big win for Desertmartin and was a bit of a set-back to Wakehurst aspirations of winning the league Title at the end of season. After a steady start by both teams Desertmartin took the lead through a goal scored by David Rowe on the 39th minute. Wakehurst doubled their advantage after David Rowe scored his second goal on the 50th minute followed on the 53rd minute by Andy Laughlin converting a penalty for Wakehurst. Desertmartin responded with Jamie O’Neil scoring on the 61st minute restoring their two goal lead only to see Andy Laughlin convert a second penalty for Wakehurst on the 75th minute. The pace of the game never slackened and on the 80th minute Sammy White scored a fourth for Desertmartin. Wakehurst never gave up the chase but it was late on when Corey Price scored their third goal on the 88th minute.     Referee Mr. Kevin Taggart

SOFIA FARMER                5              MAGHERAFELT SKY BLUES         2

There was little to choose between the teams until Diogo Inacio put Sofia in front on the 29th minute followed by a second goal scored by Pedro Gomes on the 31st minute. The Sky Blues hit back with Anthony O’Neil scoring on the 43rd minute only to see Rene Matiko score number three for Sofia on the 45th minute. Sofia increased their lead after Elton Calculo scored on the 57th minute and a penalty converted by Diogo Inacio on the 77th minute. The Sky Blues to their credit kept going getting a second goal when Anthony O’Neil scored on the 82nd minute. The only black mark in the game was Sofia have a man sent off on the 89th minute and Sky Blues one on the 90th minute.                Referee Mr. Paul Douglas

                                GLEBE RANGERS              0              BRANTWOOD                   0

This could be two very valuable lost points to Glebe at the end of season but full marks to Brantwood who never gave up the chase for the win. Chances were few and far between two evenly matched teams who usually have little problem in scoring but on Saturday it was an off day for both,         Referee Mr. Adam McKnight

                                                                O’GORMAN CUP 2nd ROUND

CHIMNEY CORNER                          0              DUNLOY FC                        1

This was a corker of a cup tie with both teams giving it their all for the entire 90 minutes. The first clear chance to score came on the 15th minute when the Corner were awarded a penalty but for the second cup game on the trot Dunloy saw their keeper make an excellent save. This time it was Conor McGilligan who suffered a horrendous injury on the 5th November but has made a full recovery making the save. Chances came and went in the second half then with extra-time beckoning up popped John John McFerran to score on the 87th minute taking Dunloy into the semi-final where they will be away to Wakehurst.            Referee Mr. Mark Irwin

                                COAGH UNITED                3              NEWTOWNE                       2 (after extra-time)

There was nothing to separate the teams during the first-half with no goals being scored. A similar pattern of play followed in the second half until Aaron Campbell scored for Coagh on the 69th minute only to see Jack Heaney equalise f or Newtowne on the 70th minute. Both teams kept it tight after this and with no more goals extra-time was played.  Newtowne went in front after Evan Donnell scored on the 98th minute then Mark Taylor equalised for Coagh on the 100th minute. Penalties were then on the horizon when Richard Donaghy scored the winner of Coagh on teh 105th minute.               Referee Mr. Kenny Hayton

                                                                     JUNIOR DIVISIONS

BRANTWOOD RES                          3              DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS              1

After a steady start Brantwood went in front after Andy Crawford scored. The Swifts came back to equalise when Conor Stewart scored only to see Adrian Murphy put Brantwood back in front before half-time. Chris Campbell scored on the 21st minute putting Rathcoole back in front followed by Brian Black scoring on the 24th minute which saw Rathcoole two goals clear at half-time. The surprising thing was that after 6 goals in the first 24 minute no more goals were score in the game.           Referee Mr. Charlie Pollock

COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC               4              ANTRIM ROVERS             2

What a game 6 goals scored in the first 28 minute then none in the rest of the game. The Rovers went in front after Darryl O’Neil scored on the 5th minute then a brace of goals scored by James McGahan on the 9th and 13th minute saw the Olympic in front, The scores were level again after Jonny Rogers converted a penalty for the Rovers on the 20th minute only to see goals from Philip Kelly and Mark Montgomery on the 24th and 28th minutes win the game for the Olympic.                Referee Mr. Rodney Campbell

                                WOODLANDS                    5              MALLUSK ATHLETIC      0

The league leaders who are taking no chances in their quest to win teh title started off well and went in at half-time leading by goals scored by Ross Oliver and Paul Addis. Mallusk tried hard to get back into the game in the second half but goals scored by Alex Haggan, Mark McIlfatrick and Ross Oliver sealed the win.

                WHITEHEAD RANGERS                 5              BRANTWOOD-LOUGHSIDE          2

Whitehead went in front after Danny Hastings scored then Jason Prowse equalised for Brantwood.  Whitehead regained the lead before half-time after Jon Pawson scored then after the break Steve Leckey equalised for Brantwood.
