        SEASON 2017-18

Antrim Rovers won the Canada Trophy on Friday evening by beating Woodlands 2-1 after extra-time at Allen Park Antrim.


This was the last final of the season as the IFA Disciplinary Committee will not be meeting until June 6th to Discuss the Coagh United challenge to their decision of fining Coagh United £300 for their part in the abandoned Crawford Cup semi-final. Newtowne were also fined £300 but have not challenged the decision


The league is very thankful to the Chimney Corner Club for the use of their facilities to stage the Finals with the pitch in excellent condition.   


The next bid Item on the agenda is the League Annual Dinner and Awards Night which will be held in the Michelin Athletic Club on Friday 8th June 2018. This will bring a close to the 70th Anniversary of the league which kicked off in October 1948

                                                            CANADA TROPHY FINAL

The Rovers went in front on the 3rd minute after Josh Graham swung over a cross that slipped through Keeper Stockman grasp and into the net. After this the game became a mid-field battle with few good opportunities around the goal areas. Half-time saw the early goal still separating the teams then on the 73rd minute Woodlands got back on level terms after Jonny Parkes headed the ball into the net from a cross from Stuart McCullough. The Rovers then had good chance to go in front on the 76th minute after Jordan McKelvey broke clear and in on goal but saw Keeper Stockman spread his body well to block the shot. No more goals were scored then in extra-time on the 95th minute the Rovers got the all-important third goal and what a goal it was with Curtis Evan bringing the ball under control before unleashing a 30 yard special into the roof on the Woodlands net which won the game for the Rovers.

After the final whistle the League Chairman Ian Shiels presented the trophy to Jonny Rogers the Antrim Rovers Captain.                 Referee Mr. Matthew Shaw





                                BANGOR FC                      3              DUNLOY              0

Bangor went into this game knowing they required a win and hoping Glebe Rangers slip up on Monday night against St James Swifts if they were going to win the title. Bangor started off well but were met by a determined team in Dunloy who thwarted than during the first forty-five minutes with no goals scored at half-time. A similar pattern of play followed in the second half then Bangor hit a purple patch with Andy Long scoring on the 58th minute followed by Jordan Lucas scoring on the 60th minute. This brought some relief to Bangor who got a third goal when Ethan Boylan converted a penalty on the 90th minute.          Referee Mr. Ally Burns

Newtowne started off on attack taking the lead after Blain Morrison scored on the 26th minute then doubling their advantage when Oisin Hassan scored on the 30th minute. Half-time was almost reached when Eugene Gallagher scored for St James on the 44th minute. St James were back on level terms after Terry McGrath scored on the 56th minute then goals scored by Padraig McCormack 58th minute, Terry McGrath 65th and Connell Devine 88th minutes completed the scoring.                 Referee Mr. Charlie Pollock


                                                      MID-WEEK LEAGUE GAMES


                                GLEBE RANGERS           6              COAGH UNITED            1                                             

After a steady start by both teams Glebe raced into a four goal lead with goals scored by Ian Christie 27th, Peter Kennoway 31st, Adam Harte 41st and Chad Dobbin 44th minutes. Coagh pulled a goal back on the 45th minute but two goals scored by Curtis McCartney 78th minute and Josh Elliott 85th minute ensured the three very valuable points for the Rangers.  Referee Mr. Paul Douglas

The Clots were sharper up front than Northend and went in three nil in front at half-time with goals scored by Rene Matiko One and Steve Arrell Two. Steve Arrell then completed his hat-trick before John Alexander pulled a goal back for Northend. Steve Arrell scored his fourth goal in the game before Aaron Campbell scored a brace for Northend who then conceded an own goal near the end.        Referee Mr. Brian Leitch

Though both teams had a few good chances during the first-half no goals had been scored at half-time. This changed on the 50th minute when Jonny Ferguson scored putting the RBL in front. Gary Hamilton equalised for Clough on the 65th minute only to see Davy Stirrup scoring for RBL on the 70th minute that won them the game.

It was a very late own goal that decided the result of this Derby game between the close neighbours. The Colts went in front after Rene Matiko scored on the 25th minute then Ricky Donaghy equalised for the Rangers on the 32nd minute. Rene Matiko put the Colts back in front on the 43rd minute then Ricky Donaghy equalised again for the Rangers. After this both team more or less cancelled each other out then on the 85th minute the Rangers conceded an own goal giving the Colts all three points.                 Referee Mr. Kenny Bigger
