        SEASON 2016-17

The Fist of the Mid-Week Games commence on Tuesday Night with FC Whiteabbey v Newington YC Res Kick off 6.45pm on Tuesday and Glebe Rangers v Dunloy on Wednesday Kick off 7.45pm.

The Race for league title honours is now hotting up across all four divisions:

Intermediate: Coagh United are presently in pole position but have to play their nearest challengers Glebe Rangers and Wakehurst as well as Dunloy and Ballynure  OB.

Junior One: Woodlands with five games left to p[lay have a great chance of lifting  the title if they come through unscathed against Newington YC Res (2), Cookstown Youth plus Rathcoole and Brantwood Res.

Newington YC Res and Cookstown are still well in the hunt bit both have a backlog of games still to play Newington (11) and Cookstown Youth (9) which will be a big ask for both.

Junior Two: Is between 3rd Ballyclare OB and Remo FC. 3rd Ballyclare OB meet Clough Rangers Athletic before meeting Remo FC in their final game of the season. If 3rd Ballyclare beat Clough, Remo would have to beat 3rd Ballyclare by a wide margin to lift the title on goal difference. If 3rd Ballyclare lose to Clough the last game would be more or less a play off for the Title.

Junior Three: with one game left to play Brantwood-Loughside have the title won after beating their nearest challengers Antrim Rovers Swifts who finish in the Runners-Up position.

                                BALLYNURE OB                3              DESERTMARTIN               3

This was a very tight game with five of the goals being scored during the first forty five minutes. Marc Leckey put Ballynure in front with only five minutes of the game played. Desertmartin hit back with Robin Patton scoring the equaliser on the 18th minute then scoring a second goal putting the Martins in front on the 30th minute. Desertmartin added to their tally after Philip Caulfield scored then saw Josh McIlroy score a second goal for Ballynure on the 44th minute. Ballynure got back on level term after Manager Ronnie Burns scored on the 51st minute and though both teams had chances in the remainder of the game no more goals were scored. Referee Mr. David Moore

CHIMNEY CORNER          1              MAGHERAFELT SKY BLUES         2

During the first-half chances came and went for both teams and at half-time no goals gad been scored. Things changed early in the second half when Aidy Swann scored putting the Corner into the lead.  The Sky Blues got back on level terms after Tommy Beattie converted a penalty on the 54th minute. Both teams went for the winner after this which went to the Sky Blues after Anthony O’Neil scored on the 79th minute.

Referee Mr. Jimmy Johnston

GLEBE RANGERS              2              SOFIA FARMER             0

In their previous two matches this season there was little to choose between the two teams. This time around things were of a similar nature and at half-time in the game no goals had been scored. Time was beginning to run down when Glebe got the breakthrough when Richard Dunlop scored on the 73rd minute then added his second goal on the 80th minute without reply.         Referee Mr. Gareth Stewart

                                COAGH UNITED                 2              BRANTWOOD       1

This result of this game was a very big win for Coagh in their bid to lift the league title. Brantwood started off well taking the lead after Steven Bainbridge opened the scoring for them on the 17th minute. Coagh got back level soon after this goal with James Ferguson scoring on the 22nd minute. Play swung from end to end after this then with half-time approaching Aaron Campbell struck to put Coagh in front on the 37th mnute. The second half saw Brantwood go all-out for the equaliser by Coagh defended well to collect three very valuable points at the final whistle.                          Referee Mr. Stephen Wallace

                                                        O’GORMAN CUP SEMI-FINAL

                                WAKEHURST                     2              DUNLOY               1

An injury time goal was the difference between the teams at the end which saw Wakehurst claim their place in the final. Both teams took a time to settle into their stride then on the 35th minute Dunloy went in front through a goal scored by John John McFerran. Wakehurst came back getting back on level terms after Lee McClelland scored on the 58th minute. After this both teams played it tight with clear chances at a premium. Play then went into the final minutes when with extra-time looming Wakehurst got the winner after Andy Laughlin scored after a scramble in the Dunloy penalty box on the 91st minute.                                Referee Mr. Adam McKnight

DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS              0              RATHCOOLE FC               1

Rathcoole got off to a great start with Ross Watters scoring on the 2nd minute of the game. After this both teams had chances to score but at half-time the single goal separated the teams. The second half saw plenty of chances but alas no more goals with the Rathcoole playing the last fifteen minutes minus a man who was sent off.

Referee Mr. Brian Leitch

NEWINGTON YC RES                      9              COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC               0

The scoreline in this game was a bit of a surprise as a close game was envisaged between the teams. Newington got off to an early start with Pardep Hawa scoring a brace of goals on the 3rd and 8th minutes. Daniel Moore then got in on the scoring act completing a hat-trick on the 15th, 34th, and 36th minutes. Conal McKeown added to the tally with goals scored on the 53rd and 55th minutes before Gary Doherty and Michael McArdle completed the scoring on the 63rd and 83rd minutes.      Referee Mr. Charlie Pollock

                                WOODLANDS                    5              ANTRIM ROVERS             1

Both teams were early on the attack with Woodlands taking the lead after Ross Oliver scored on the 12th minute. The Rovers hit back with Glenn Vance scoring on the 16th minute and at half-time the teams were still level. At the start of the second half there was little to choose between the teams until Alex Haggan scored for Woodlands on the 70th minute. Antrim then had to chase the game but it was Woodlands with three more goals scored by Alex Haggan 72nd, Steven Scallon 78th and Jonny McFetridge 82nd who collected three very valuable points at the end.                             Referee Mr. Russell Kennedy

CCOOKSTOWN RBL       2              COOKSTOWN YOUTH                    0

This was a cracking derby game with both teams playing lots of good football throughout the game. The only thing missing was goals and at the end it was a goal scored by Simon Young on the 33rd minute that settled the score in favour of RBL.                     Referee Mr. Kenny Bigger

                                BALLYNURE OB ‘B’         4              68TH OB ‘A’          4

It was a goal scored on the 90th minute goal that gave the 68th a point from an exciting game. The 68th went in front after Dave Blair scored on the 1st minute then Jonny McCrea scored the equaliser for Ballynure before half-time.  Jonny McCrea completed his hat-trick putting Ballynure two goals clear before Ross McMahon and Dave Blair scored for the 68th to level the game. Time was then running down when Jason Armstrong scored putting Ballynure back in front only to see Rian Humphreys score on the 90th minute for the 68th.
