        SEASON 2017-18


The Wet weather over Friday and Saturday saw eleven games in all competitions being cancelled. Included among these were IFA and Divisional Competitions and as a result come games scheduled for Saturday 28th will have to be changed as the IFA and Divisional Games take reference over League Competitions.

In the Eight IFA Intermediate Cup games game’s played there were wins for Glebe Rangers, Sofia farmer, Newtowne and Cookstown RBL. Bangor FC and Cookstown Youth lost out in penalty shoot-outs while Ballynure OB and Coagh United lost out away from home.

In the County Antrim Junior Shield there were wins for Sport & Leisure Swifts Res, Newington YC Res, Rathcoole FC, Brantwood Res and Castle Star while Red Star, Mallusk Athletic and 68th Newtownabbey OB ‘A’ lost.

                GLEBE RANGERS                              5              ROSARIO YC      1

Glebe were early on the attack in this game but it took a little time for the first goal scored by Jake Francis on the 31st minute. Glebe went three nil in front after this goal with Aaron Weir scoring a brace on the 35th and 38th minutes. Glebe went four goals clear after Lee Gault scored on the 48th minute before Rosario pulled goal back on the 69th minute. Time was then running down when Chris Nicholl scored a fifth goal for Glebe on the 86th minute.


                NEWTOWNE FC                                5              St MARYS (Portadown)     0             

Newtowne took the lead after Gerard Logue scored on the 7th minute then went two in front after Ryan Twist scored on the 17th minute. Paul McIvor then scored a brace of goals on the 31st and 40th minutes giving Newtowne a two goal lead at half-time. The second half saw Paul McIvor complete his hat-trick on the 73rd minute.

Carrick went in front when Fran Rice when hesitancy in the Bangor defence left Fran Rice with the simple task of hitting the ball into an empty net on the 26th minute. Bangor drew level after Kyle Woods headed in from a Mark Magennis cross on the 58th minute. The game went in to extra--time and with no more goals penalties were taken with Carrick scoring their first five while Bangor only scored four.

Ballynure never really got into this game and  at the end the home side win by four clear goals.

At half-time in this game Sofia led by three goals to one at half-time then scored seven more goals in the second half. Sofia goals were scored by Robertson Ribeiro (3), Ezequiel De Jesus (2), Raul Garcia (2), Leonel Mendes (1), Joaquim Correia (1) and an Own Goal.

RBL went in front after Lee Hunter scored on the 15th minute and still held this advantage at half-time. Silverwood drew level on the 54th minute then Aaron Reid scored a second for RBL on the 64th minute which won the game.

                                DOWNSHIRE YM               7              COOKSTOWN YOUTH    6              (After Penalties)

Half-time in this game saw no goals then the visitors went in front on the 56th minute. The Youth got back level after Barry Kelly scored on the 63rd minute. Downshire went in front again on the 77th minute but back came the Youth with Mark Megarry scoring on the 86th minute. No more goals were scored in extra-time then in the penalty shoot-out Downshire won 5-4.

Islandmagee took the lead on the 28th minute then James Ferguson equalised for Coagh on the 33rd minute leaving the teams level at half-time. There were few chances in the second half with Islandmagee scoring the winner on the 66th minute.

Woodlands good run of form continued on Saturday though they only led by a goal scored by Stuart McCullough on the 25th minute at half-time. Stuart McCullough scored his second goal on the 47th minute followed by number three scored by Alex Haggan on the 55th minute. Desertmartin tried hard to get back into the game but it was Woodlands who continued to set the pace with Stuart McCullough bringing his tally to four goals after he scored on the 69th and 85th Minutes.  Referee Mr. Matthew Shaw

Whiteabbey got off t o a good start in this game taking the lead after Sean Cowler scored on the 11th minute and getting a second goal scored by Conor Mullan on the 28th minute. Half-time saw Whiteabbey two goals clear which became three after Chris Loy scored on the 69th minute. Time was then running down when Dave Emmett scored number four for Whiteabbey on the 82nd minute.         Referee Mr. Charlie Pollock

                CARNLOUGH SWIFTS                    6              68TH NEWTWNABBEY OB  ‘B’      1

Carnlough went in front after Ciaran Cairns scored on the 20th minute then the 68th replied immediately with Ryan Irvine scoring on the 22nd minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then in the second half Carnlough scored five goals through Gary Montgomery, James Mellon, Declan Diamond, Fintan Cullen and James Mellon again in a fifteen minute period to leave the 68th shell shocked.                         Referee Mr. Ian Shiels


                NORTH BELFAST UNITED             0              BALLYCLARE NORTH END           1

This was a very closely contested game for the entire ninety minutes and at half-time no goals had been scored. North Belfast then had a great chance to go in front when awarded a p0enalty but North End Keeper William Sharkey brought off a great save to keep the scoreline blank. The game was then coming near an end when Robert Bonnes scored what proved to be the winning goal for North End on the 80th minute.

This was a good win for Brantwood who went in front after Glenn Pierce scored on the 22nd minute. Dean Abbott made it two nil on the 35th minute followed by a third scored by Tyler McMaster on the 42nd minute. Dean Abbott scored his second goal on the 68th then Shankill converted a penalty on the 76th minute. Steve Wilson scored a fifth for Brantwood on the 85th minute followed by Shankill converting a second penalty on the 90th minute.

The conditions were anything but pleasant for this game with a very strong wind blowing all over the ground. Both teams did their best to combat the conditions and at the end it was a goal scored by Daniel White that decided the outcome in favour of Newington.

The ball certainly moved quickly in the wind on a slick 3g surface throughout the game. The visitors went in front then Matty Fegan scored the equaliser for Mallusk. Both teams had a chance or two after this and it was the visitors who got the all important third goal in the game.

The home side made good use of the wind at the start and took a two goal lead with goals scored on the 10th and 30th minutes. The game was then in the 45th minute when Joel McMurtry scored for Castle Star. Castle drew level in the game after Paul Matthews scored on the 61st minute and got the winning goal after Paul Garvey scored on the 76th minute.

The 68th took a two goal lead through goals scored by then and own goal conceded saw their lead gut to a single goal. Half-time was approaching when Ciaran McKissock equalised for the Sports. Two goals scored by Ciaran McKissock and Brendan Mullan saw the Sports go two goals clear before scored for the 68th. Time was then beginning to run down when Ciaran McKissock completed his hat-trick securing the win for the Sports.

Red Star will want to forget about this game as they never really got going as an attacking force


                                RATHCOOLE FC               3              GALGORM BLUES     2     (After Extra-time)

This was a very close game between two evenly matched teams with the first goal being scored by Galgorm on the 44th minute. Rathcoole got back level after Alex Crawford scored on the 54th minute then went in front after Ross Watters scored on the 68th minute. Normal time was almost up when Galgorm got the equaliser on the 88th minute taking the game into extra-time. Extra-time was almost over when Jordan Bright scored the winner for Rathcoole in the last minute.
