Saturday was a mixed day of results for the Intermediate Teams in the 1st Round of the IFA Intermediate Cup. Wakehurst, Newtowne, Ballynure OB, Magherafelt Sky Blues and Chimney Corner join Desertmartin who had a bye in the 1st Round in the hat for the 2nd Round Draw

In the Mid-Ulster Shield 2nd Round there were wins for Cookstown Olympic, Cookstown Youth and Cookstown RBL.

The County Antrim Junior Shield 2nd Round saw Newington YC Res the only team to progress to the 3rd Round on 12th November

                                DUNDELA                                            8              WAKEHURST FC               9 (After Pens)

This as a big scalp for the young Wakehurst team to take coming from 3-1 down to do this. Dundela went in front but Stuart Nixon pulled Wakehurst back level. Dundela then scored twice to lead but goals scored by Andy Loughlin and Peter McClure saw Wakehurst back level and take the game into extra time. Wakehurst went in front after Dave Johnston scored early in the first period of extra time and held this lead until Dundela scored the equaliser with two minutes left to play. Penalties were then taken with Andy Finlay giving Wakehurst a great start by saving the 1st Dundela penalty. Wakehurst went on to convert all their five penalties which included Andy Finlay scoring against four converted by Dundela.

Sofia Farmer can only blame themselves for losing this game as they were leading 3-1 after 38 minute of play. Newtowne went in front after Aaron McGregor scored on the 10th minute then goals scored by Nuno Colace on the 19th and Fabio Gaiho on the 26th minutes saw Sofia in front. Sofia scored a third goal by Elton Carvghlo on the 38th minute then immediately after this had a man sent off for a second yellow card. Newtowne got back into the game after Ryan Logue scored on the 63rd minute then levelled the score after Paul McIvor scored on the78th minute. An incident then took place with teh Sofia keeper being sent off for a second yellow card and immediately Sofia had a third played sent off along with a Newtowne player. Newtowne then went in front deep into stoppage time when Gary Moore scored on the 95th minute but straight after this Sofia were back on level terms when Nuno Colace scored. Extra time was then played and with Newtowne sealing the win after Paul McIvor scored.

The best chance to score during the fist-half went to Brantwood who were awarded a penalty on the 15th minute but this was saved by the Sports Keeper. Half-time came with no goals being scored then on teh 75th minute Sports went in front. Brantwood had to chase the game then got caught on the 85th minute when Sports scoring a second goal to claim the win.

Both teams had a couple chance to score during the first-half but none were taken. The home side then went in front on the 60th minute then Robert Watson scored the equaliser for Ballynure on the 75th minute. No more goals were scored during normal and extra time. Penalties were then taken to decide the outcome which Ballynure won by 4-3

                                MAGHERAFELT SKY BLUES         4              HOLYWOOD      3

The Sky Blues went in at half-time trailing by a goal to nil. Things changed for the Sky Blues in the second half with Thomas Beattie scoring a hat-trick on the 52nd, 57th, and 65th minutes. The visitors then hit back with a brace of goals to level the game with 15 minute left to play. The Sky Blues went all-out for the winner getting this when Diarmuid Larkin scored on the 85th minute.

This was a hard earned victory for the Young Corner team and will certainly give then more confidence as the season progresses. The Corner went in front after David Hanna headed in from a good cross in the 36th minute and still held this lead at half-time. The Corner defended their lead well in teh second half and progressed to the next round.

                                GLEBE RANGERS                              2                              ABBEY VILLA    5 (After Pens)

A very late goal conceded and missing three penalties cost Glebe dearly in this game. The visitors went in front after Dalzell scored on the 10th minute then Joshua Elliott equalised for Glebe on the 42nd minute. Glebe went in front after Ian Christie scored on the 65th minute and appeared to have won the game until Arthurs scored the equaliser for the Villa on the 88th minute. Extra Time saw no more goals then Glebe Missed two penalties and a third saved of their first three. Villa converted their first three penalties to take the win.

                                                DUNGIVEN                           4              DUNLOY               3 (After Ex-time)

Two penalties given away cost Dunloy the win in this game. Dungiven went two goals clear in the first 30 minutes of the game and this score remained at half-time. Declan McGarry pulled a goal back for Dunloy on the 46th minute then Karl Fitzpatrick scored the equaliser on the 61st minute. Dunloy went in front after John John McFerran scored on the 73rd minute and had the game won but for conceding a needless penalty on the 5th minute of stoppage time. Extra-tine was played and a second penalty for Dungiven early in the first period of extra–time won them the game.                            

                                                QUEENS                                5              COAGH UNITED 3

Coagh gave themselves an uphill task in this game going in at half-time trailing by four goals to nil. Coagh got back into the game after James Ferguson scored a brace of goals followed by number three scored by Danny McKinless cutting the deficit to one. Unfortunately Queens scored another goal which killed off the hopes Coagh had.

Both teams had chances to score during the first-half but alas no goals were scored. Whiteabbey had a great chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot on the 50th minute but this was missed. Whiteabbey went in front on the 74th minute when Ryan O’Neil scored this goal separating the teams until Darren Cosby equalised for Rathcoole on the 90th minute.            Referee Mr. Brian Leitch

                SPORT & LEISURE SWIFTS RES                3              MALLUSK ATHLETIC      6

This was a very high scoring game with the teams sharing nine goals. Mallusk went in front after Chris Loy scored on the 10th minute. Sean O’Donnell equalised for Sports on the 16th minute before Paul Walker scored a second for Mallusk on the 20th minute. Paul McCann equalised for Sports on the 28th minute then Phil Brown scored for Mallusk on the 37th minute. Ciaran McKissock scored for Sports on the 64th minute. Goals scored by Paul Walker 74th, Ross Middleton 80th and Phil Brown 87th minutes completed the scoring.

There was very little to choose between the teams during the first-half except a goal scored by Matthew West on the 39th minute that put Ballynure in front. Ballynure extended their lead on the 55th minute after Jonny Kane scored then Clough replied with Richard Ross converting a penalty on teh 57th minute. After this Clough pushed hard for the equaliser but Ballynure held out for the win.       Referee Mr. Tommy Waide                     

                                3rd BALLYCLARE OB                       3              COOKSTOWN RBL RES 2

Ballyclare got off to a flying start to this game taking the lead after Marc Campbell scored on the 6th minute then adding a second scored by Steve Howe on the 11th minute. RBL responded to this with goals scored by Gareth Ramsey on the 21st minute and Tom Chambers on the 25th minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then on the 66th minute Marc Campbell scored his second goal in the game which proved to be the winner at the end.

1st Carrick went in front after Dave White scored on the 2nd minute then Whitehead replied to this on the 5th minute with the equaliser. Half-time came and the teams were still level then on the 60th minute Ryan Clawson put 1st Carrick back in front. Two more goals scored by Ryan Clawson to complete his hat –trick on the 71st and 90th minutes completed the scoring.                         Referee Mr. Declan Campbell

This was a closely contested game and a draw at the end was possibly the correct result on the day. Red Star went in front after Brian Cunningham who missed a penalty earlier scored on the 31st minute. The Old Boys hit back with Ryan Humphreys scoring the equaliser on the 33rd minute. After this both teams had chances to score but it was a point for each at the end      Referee Mr. Paul Trimble

Newtownabbey went in front after Kris Axon scored on the 15th minute then doubled their lead when Karl Woodside scored on teh 35th minute. North End hit back with Gareth Patton scoring on the 60th minute and getting a point from the game after Eddie Kocherian scored on the 75th minute.     Referee Mr. Jack Young

The Strollers went in front after Tom Campbell scored on the 10th minute but then saw Brian Taylor equalise for the Swifts on the 16th minute. Half-time was approaching when Paul Gilchrist scored for the Strollers on the 32nd minute. The Strollers went two goals clear after Roy Colville scored on the59th minute then sealed the win when Tom Campbell scored his second goal scored on the 63rd minute.                    Referee Mr. Russell Wilson

This was a very evenly contested game and the Rovers who were a bit unfortunate to lose went out to a goal scored on the 77th minute.

Ballybogey under Manager of John Paul McQuillan with this win will now travel to Newington YC Res in the next round. Ballybogey led two nil at half-time and scored their third mid-way through the second half.

                                BALLYCLARE UNDER 20s             2              BRANTWOOD RES          1 (After Ex-Time)

Brantwood were a little bit unlucky not to take teh game to penalties instead of losing in extra-time. The teams were level at the end of ninety minute then Ballyclare got the winner in the extra-time.

Newington had to be at their best to defeat a well organised team in Tollymore. Goals scored by Mark Kelly and Daniel Kelly to one against give Newington a home game against Ballybogey in the next round.

                                CARNINY AMATEIRS                      6              MOUNTAINVIEW              1

This was an off day for Mountainview who failed to get to grips with the slick 3g surface conceding six goals and only Michael McFarlane scoring once Mountainview.

                                St JAMES SWIFTS                            4              REMO FC             1

Remo got off to a good start in this game taking the lead after John Fox scored but then conceded the equaliser before half-time. St James were the stronger team in the second half scoring three goals without reply.


                                                                MID-ULSTER SHIELD 2nd ROUND

                                COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC               5              WEST END HIBS                4

The Olympic went in front after Michael Meenan scored on the 2nd minute, the Hibs replied to this with Gabriel Palko scoring on the 6th minute. Aidan Doyle put the Olympic back in front on the 10th minute then the game settled down before Aidan Doyle scored his second goal on the 40th minute. The Hibs got back on level terms after Gabriel Palko and Aaron Patrick scored on teh 51st and 70th minutes. Hibs went in front after Gabriel Palko completed his hat-trick on the 75th minute. The Olympic hit back to win with goals scored by Niall Doyle and James McGahan on the 83rd and 89th minutes.

This was another good win for the Youth who led four nil at half time scoring six and conceding one. The Youth goals were scored by Mark Megarry (3), Jordan Glasgow (2) and Kiefer Scott

This was a big performance and the win for RBL whose goals were scored by Simon Gates (2), Benny Grey (3), Gareth Hull (2), Keith Rollins, Aaron Reid and Danny Dowd.
