What a week-end it was for the league with Bangor FC, Glebe Rangers and St James Swifts all winning to reach the quarter finals of the prestigious County Antrim Steel & Sons Cup. All three teams will be hoping to miss each other when the Draw is made on Saturday 30th September. In the Intermediate league Ballynure beat Coagh United by the odd goal in three while Dunloy beat Chimney Corner by the same scoreline.

In the Mid-Ulster Bob Radcliffe Cup Cookstown Youth lost out in a penalty shoot-out while Cookstown RBL lost at Rathfriland.

In the County Antrim Junior Shield only two teams progressed to the next round from the Seven Teams competing. In the Mid-Ulster Shield Cookstown Olympic had a good away win over Portadown BBOB

Both teams started off cautiously then on the 25th minute Stefan Thompson scored putting Coagh in front. Ballynure came back to equalise with Ryan McIlwaine scoring on the 35th minute putting the teams level at half-time. Ballynure went in front after Craig Todd scored on the 61st minute and though pressurised by Coagh defended this lead until the final whistle.                       Referee Mr. Ryan Hanna   


                DUNLOY FC                                        2              CHIMNEY CORNER          1

Chimney Corner took an early lead in this game with James Thompson scoring on the 5th minute and were still in front at half-time. Dunloy got back on level terms after Conal Dooey scored on the 55th minute and this scoreline remained until Karl Fitzpatrick scored what was the winning goal on the 91st minute.

This was really a deserved win for St James who are in their first year of Intermediate Football. Glentoran went in front on the 19th minute then straight from the re-start Gary Dorrian caught the Glens keeper off his line and scored the equaliser from the centre circle. St James then went in front with another cracking goal with Padraig McCormick scoring with a strong volley on the 32nd minute. Half-time saw St James still in front and they should have added to ther score but the single goal lead saw them through.

After a steady start by both teams Bangor went in front after Keith Armstrong converted a penalty on the 45th minute. The Foundry got back on level terms when Marcus Beattie converted a penalty on the 47th minute. Bangor then went in front through a good goal scored by Andy Long on the 67th minute and though the Foundry tried hard to get back level it was the third goal in the game that won the tie for Bangor.

Glebe went in front after Chris Nicholl scored on the 8th minute and held this advantage until then the home side equalised on the 45th minute. Glebe went in front again after Chris Nicholl scored his second goal on the 52nd minute followed by Peter Kennoway scoring a third on the 60th minute. The home side scored a second goal on the 62nd minute but Glebe hit back with Jake Francis scoring to seal the win on the 73rd minute.

The Youth went in front after Drew Kelly scored on the 1st minute then Hanover equalised on the 3rd minute. The Youth went in front again after Mark Megarry scored on the 18th minute and held this lead until Hanover equalised on the 76th minute. No more goals were scored after this and after extra time was played Hanover won 7-6 in a penalty shoot out.

The home team won this game with a strong display in the first-half when they scored four goals without reply. The second half saw RBL concede another goal near the end of normal time.

This was bad day all round for Newtowne who started the game without several experienced players due to other commitments and were three goals behind at half-time. Newtowne pulled a goal back but conceded another two in the second half.

The first goal in the game was scored by Maurice McDowell on the 4th minute putting Clough in front then Josh Graham equalised for the Swifts on the 13th minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then Richard Ross scored to put Clough back in front then on the 75th minute Allan Jones equalised for the Swifts. The game was then into stoppage time when Ryan Costly nipped in with the winning goal for Clough.                Referee Mr. Brian Patterson

Both teams tended to cancel each other out during in the first-half until Luke Watters scored on the 44th minute putting Brantwood in front. The second half was a similar affair only this time it was the Colts who got the goal in the 90th minute when Paul Stewart scored.                               Referee Mr. Bert Purdy


                KILLYMOON RANGERS 2              MALLUSK ATHLETIC      1

Killymoon took an early lead in the game after Ricky Donaghy scored on the 7th minute then saw Matty Fegan scored the equalise for Mallusk on the 27th minute. Half-time was almost reached when William Frizzle put Killymoon back in front on the 40th minute. The second half saw Mallusk go all-out for the equaliser but Killymoon held their lead until the final whistle.       Referee Mr. Ian Shiels


NORTHEND UNITED YOUTH                         6              COOKSTOWN RBL RES 1

Northend were early on the mark with Joshua Logan taking the ball in his stride before dispatching it into the RBL net early in teh first-half. Northend doubled their lead when Matthew Logan scored from close range before RBL pulled a goal back before half-time. Northend went further in front after Charles Allen scored a well taken goal followed by Aaron Campbell converting a penalty after Robert McCluney had been brought down. Northend went on to score another two goals with Chad Shaw scoring a brace of goals to complete a good team performance.         Referee Mr. Matthew Shaw

Greenisland raced into a three goal lead thanks to goals scored by Jordan Hastings 8th minute, Ryan Coates 13th and Jonny Kelly 14th minutes. Gary Kelly made it four nil on the 42nd minute then a goal scored by Bryan Cunningham on the 51st minute gave Red Star a life line. Greenisland replied to this with a goal scored by Jordan Hastings on the 56th minute and a brace of goals from Jonny Kelly on the 59th and 75th minutes to complete his hat-trick.              Referee Mr. Kenny Bigger

The visitors had to field a very young team due to injuries etc and came up against a very strong Rathcoole team who could certainly hold their own against stronger opposition. Rathcoole goals were scored by Alex Crawford (6), Taylor Blair (5), Jordan Armstrong (2) and goal each for Paul Waite and Jordan Bright.

Woodlands lost for the second week on the trot on penalties. Killough led one nil at half-time then doubled their lead before Alex Haggan and an own goal saw Woodlands back on level terms. Alex Haggan then put Woodlands in front only to see Kllough equalise and take teh game to penalties which they won 6-5

On a very blustery day at the seaside Ballynure had trouble with the strong win and though they scored two goals through Ryan Burke and Ross Mc Fall they could not equal the home side.

Abbeyview took their chances better than Whiteabbey and as a result went through to the next round.

In a game where both teams were guilty of missing chances Sports won teh game througha goal scored by Tony McQuaide.

Northend went two goals scored by Gareth Patton and Anton McCudden in front inside the first twenty minutes.

The home side came back to equalise before half-time and score two more goals in the second half to win the game.

This was a very good win for the 68th who took the lead after Marty McLarnon scored. This goal was followed by two more score by David Blair and Jake Blair. The home side pulled goal back before half-time then with his second goal in the game Davy Blair put the 68th three goals clear again. Clonduff never gave up and scored two more goals to narrow the gap to a single goal at full time.

The Olympic went in front after Nigel Johnstown scored on the 15th minute then saw the home side equalise on the 20th minute and go in front on the 42nd minute. Aidan Doyle equalised for the Olympic on the 48th minute followed by Tiernan Brennan putting them in front on the 58th minute. The home side drew level on the 62nd minute and this score remained until Martin Meenan scored the winner for the Olympic on the 89th minute.
