        SEASON 2017-18

What a difference a week makes when we look back to no games being lost on the two previous Saturdays compared to Saturday when only two games survived the Arctic Conditions

Saturday’s cancellations bring the season total up to 34 Intermediate and 65 Junior Games across all competitions lost to ground conditions.

Hopefully there will be an improvement in the weather when we will get back on track.

The deepest sympathy from everyone within the league is extended to the Family of Arthur Stewart who died on Friday. Arthur will be sadly missed by his Wife Eileen Sons James and Paul and daughter-in–law Lisa as well as grandchildren Charlie and Amelie. Arthur had a stellar career in football after he joined Glentoran as a teenager and went on to play for Derby County then managed by the late Brian Clough as well as being capped by Northern Ireland

                                                JUNIOR DIVISIONS LEAGUE GAMES

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP ROUND 3

KILLYMOON RANGERS 5              CLOUGH RANGERS ATHLETIC    3

This game was played on the 3g pitch at MUSA which was available and both teams agreed to play. Killymoon got off to a great start when Shields scored on the 2nd minute. Clough hit back quickly with Neil Stewart scoring the equaliser on the 7th minute taking the lead on the 11thminute through a goal scored by Robbie Sutherland and held this lead at half-time. Killymoon got back on level terms after Chris McNicholl scored on the 62nd minute then went in front after Warren Smyth scored on the 75th minute. Stuart Donaghy then put Killymoon two goals clear on the 79th minute before Robbie Sutherland scored his second goal on the 82nd minute for Clough. Clough had their hopes then dashed on the 83rd minute when Warren Smyth scored to seal the win for Killymoon who will now meet near neighbours Cookstown Youth Colts in the semi-final with winner meeting Castle Star in the final.                Referee Mr. Bert Purdy

                                                                IFA JUNIOR CUP QUARTER FINAL

NEWINGTON YC RES                      0              HARRYVILLE HOMERS  3

Newington started off well and had what everyone thought was a stonewall penalty in the first five minutes but to their amazement the referee waved play on. After this the game was even until Harryville scored with a well worked goal on the 22nd minute. Half-time came with the single goal separating the teams then on the 50th minute Harryville increased their lead from a corner kick. Newington never gave up the chase but found the Harryville keeper to be in top form bringing off several top class saves.  Time was then beginning to run down when Harryville scored again after a corner kick to seal the win on the 72nd minute.
