        SEASON 2016-17

After Saturday’s results there was no change at the top of any of the league tables with the situation becoming very tight across all Four Divisions.

On Saturday next in the IFA Intermediate Cup Newtowne will meet Donegal Celtic in the 4th Round at Scroggy Road kick off 1.30pm.

Down for decision on Saturday are the McReynolds Cup Semi-final between Coagh United v Ballynure OB and the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup Semi-final Remo FC v 3rd Ballyclare OB    .

WAKEHURST                     2              DUNLOY               1

Chances had to be worked for in the fist-half and as a result there were few good goal scoring opportunities for each team. One chance there was when Wakehurst were awarded corner kick which saw Kyle Crawford open the scoring from close range separating the teams at half-time. Dunloy got back on level terms after John John McFerran scored on the 61st minute and it looked like a draw was on the cards. Time was beginning to run down when Zac Barr put over a good cross which saw Stuart Nixon tap the ball home on the 78th minute that won the game for Wakehurst.           Referee Mr. Paul Doherty

GLEBE RANGERS              4              BALLYNURE OB                0

This was probably the best performance of the season by Glebe but one Ballynure will want to put behind them. Glebe went in front after Ricky Dunlop scored on the 8th minute then followed this with his second goal on the 20th minute. Half-time saw Glebe still two goals in front then on the 80th minute Ricky Dunlop completed his hat-trick followed by Luke Mitchell scoring the fourth on the 85th minute.

Referee Mr. Noel Crossan

                DESERTMARTIN               1              COAGH UNITED 2

There was little to choose between the teams during the fist-half and though both had chances at half-time no goals had been scored. Things change on the 55th minute when Andy Neil scored putting Coagh in front. Desertmartin hit back with Jamie O’Neil scoring the equaliser on the 65th minute. Both teams then went for the winning goal which went to Coagh after James Ferguson scored on the 85th minute. Referee Mr. Gary Crawford

                CHIMNEY CORNER          0              BRANTWOOD                   3

Brantwood started off well and took the lead after Anthony Philpott scored on the 13th minute. After this the Corner held their ground going in at half-time trailing by the single goal. Corner with quite a number of new faces in their team tried hard to get back on level terms but got caught when Steven Bainbridge scored a killer goal for Brantwood on the 77th minute. Brantwood then went on to seal the win after Mark Tweedie scored their third goal on the 83rd minute.       Referee Mr. Liam Kennedy

                SOFIA FARMER                1              NEWTOWNE                       3

Newtowne took an early lead in this game after Rory O’Reilly converted a penalty on the 9th minute. After this Sofia came back strong getting back on level terms after Stephen Hamill scored on the 23rd minute. Half-time was almost on the blow when Oisin Hassan scored putting Newtowne back in front on the 46th minute. Sofia went all-out for the equaliser in the second half but got caught with Jack Heaney on hand to score the all important third goal for Newtowne on the 75th minute.       Referee Mr. Mark O’Neil

                                                                     JUNIOR DIVISIONS

COOKSTOWN RBL                          1              RATHCOOLE FC               1

Both teams gave their all in this game with a point each probably being the fair result at the end. RBL went in front after Gareth Hull scored on the 23rd minute and this goal separated the teams at half-time. Rathcoole got back on level terms after Graham Bingham scored on the 65th minute and at the end this gave the team a point each. Referee Mr. Russell Kennedy

MALLUSK ATHLETIC                      2              DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS              3

Chances came and went for both teams before Gareth McKinney opened the scoring for the Swifts on the 33rd minute. Half-time was almost reached when Stuart McIlhatton scored a second goal for the Swifts on the 44th minute. Chris Kerr made it three nil for the Swifts on the 65th minute but back came Mallusk with Will Devine scoring on the 785th minute. Mallusk then pushed forward looking for more goals but it was too late when Paul Walker scored their second goal on the 88th minute.                    Referee Mr. Tommy Waide

BRANTWOOD RES                          2              FC WHITEABBEY              3

This game was switched at short notice by the teams to the 3g pitch at UUJ Jordanstown with Skegoneil Avenue declared not playable. Stevie Hylands scored on the 17th minute putting Brantwood ahead then a second goal scored by Leon Smylie on the 37th minute saw then two goals clear. Whiteabbey got back into teh game after Ryan O’Neil scored on the 42nd minute they were back level after Brantwood concede an own goal on the 65th minute. Time was then running down fast when Mark McCullough nipped in to score the winner for Whiteabbey on the 87th minute.         Referee Mr Charlie Pollock

SPORT & LEISURE SWIFT RES                   3              COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC               3

This was a corker of a game with the teams sharing six goals at the final whistle. Padraig McKissock put the Sports in front on the 20th minute then a screamer of a free kiosk from James McGahan on the 26th minute saw the Olympic level the score. Padraig McKissock completed his hat-trick with goals on the 35th and 42nd minutes putting the Sports two goals clear at the break. James McGahan scored his second goal on the 62nd minute to reduce the deficit for the Olympic then on the 85th minute Marl Montague making his debut scored the all important equaliser.               Referee Mr. Lee Patterson

COOKSTOWN RBL RES                5              REMO FC             6

What a game with eleven goals being scored and five of them coming in the last fifteen minutes of the game. RBL were early into their stride with Jonny Taylor scoring on the 12th minute and going on to complete his hat-trick with goals on the 25th and 45th minutes. Remo replied with goals scored by Jonny Fox and James Brown on the 46th and 48th minutes before Eddie Davis scored for RBL on the 54th minute. James Brown scored his second goal for Remo on the 75th minute then Eddie Davis replied for RBL on the 86th minute. Remo never stopped and goals scored by Dee Lyness on the 88th and 92nd minutes and Jonny Fox on the 89th minute they snatched the points.             Referee Mr. Kenny Bigger

                BALLYNURE OB ‘B’                         1              3rd BALLYCLARE OB       1

This game between the two neighbours who share the same base in Ballyclare was an example of how football and sportsmanship should be played. Chances came and went for both teams during the first-half but the first goal did not come until Ross McFall scored for Ballynure on the 55th minute. Ballyclare came back to equalise through Paul McAllister on the 70th minute and this result stayed until the final whistle.

Referee Mr. Ian Getty

                                MOUNTAINVIEW              1              CASTLE STAR                   0

The thing that was surprising about this game was that only one goal was scored when it could have been three or four to each team if they had taken some of the chances created. As it was the goal scored by Michael McFarland on the 69th minute won the game for Mountainview.                Referee Mr. Rodney Campbell

WAKEHURST STROLLERS           4              CLOUGH RANGERS ATHLETIC    1

What a game it was for the young Strollers Player Manager Peter Adams as he scored all four of his teams goals. The Strollers went in leading one nil at half-time through Peter Adams first goal on the 25th minute. The Strollers second goal came on the 55th minute before Chris McDonald scored for Clough on the 65th minute. Peter Adams then scored two more goals on the 70th and 75th minutes to complete the scoring on the day.

Referee Mr. Richard Stewart

Both Scheduled games called off due to wet grounds

                                                         IFA JUNIOR CUP 5th ROUND

NEWRY CELTIC                3              COOKSTOWN YOUTH    2              (After extra Time)

Cookstown were very unfortunate not to get a penalty kick shoot-out in this game as it was a goal in the dying minute of extra-time that won the game for Celtic. Celtic took a two goal lead before George Dardis got a goal back for the Youth before half-time. The Youth got back level after Mark Megarry scored in the second half and with no more goals scored extra-time was played resulting in the very late goal for Celtic.
