-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 3g pitches came to the fore on Saturday wet conditions but unfortunately we lost six games scheduled to be played on grass. In the Intermediate League Coagh United improved their position at the top with a win over Chimney Corner while Wakehurst and Newtowne shared the goals and points in their game.

In junior Division One Woodlands continued with their good run winning away at Antrim Rovers while Cookstown Youth accounted for Brantwood Res

The Corner were well in the game for the first half-hour then after Daniel McKinless scored for Coagh on the 33rd minute they had to chase the game. Matthew Kempton doubled the Coagh lead on the 46th minute followed by Aaron Campbell scoring on the 59th minute.                                 WAKEHURST                     2              NEWTOWNE                       2

A draw was not what both teams wanted at the start of the game. Wakehurst needing the win to keep on the tail of Coagh United at the top of the table while Newtowne need to win to narrow the points gap between themselves and Wakehurst and Coagh United. After a steady start by both teams Newtowne went in front after Jack Heaney scored on the 7th minute and held this lead until Andy Laughlin headed in the equaliser for Wakehurst on the 22nd minute. Half-time saw the team level then on the 70th minute Stuart Nixon crossed the ball for Zac Barr to put Wakehurst in front. Newtowne then went down to ten men on the 72nd minute after a player went off the pitch to change his boots without the permission of the referee resulting in a second yellow card. Play then went into stoppage time when Paul McIvor scored the equaliser for Newtowne on the 94th minute.                     Referee Mr. Iain Banks

                                                         O’GORMAN CUP 2nd ROUND

GLEBE RANGERS              2              SOFIA FARMER 1

Both teams stated off well playing it tight similar to the previous Saturday when in a league game they drew one each. Few clear chances came during the first-half and it was on the 70th minute when Luke Mitchell opened the scoring for Glebe. Sofia hit back soon after with Helder Bareto scoring on the 75th minute. The game was then heading for extra-time when Luke Mitchell struck with his second goal to give Glebe a home semi-final against Coagh United.              Referee Mr. Adam McKnight

     JUNIOR DIVISIONS

                                                                                LEAGUE

                                                                                    ONE

                                ANTRIM ROVERS             0              WOODLANDS                    4

The Rovers started off well and had three great chances to score in the first-half hour. Woodlands then stuck with their first serious attack with Ross Oliver putting them in front on the 31st minute. Woodlands went two up after Stuart McCullough scored on the 37th minute and made it three nil after Alex Haggan scored on the 44th minute. Woodlands sealed the win after Tyson Gray scored on the 47th minute leaving the Rovers to rue their early missed chances.                 Referee Mr. Kenny Hayton

COOKSTOWN YOUTH                    2              BRANTWOOD RES          0

Cookstown with twelve more league games to play due to them having good runs in the various cup competitions had to be at their best to overcome a good Brantwood Team. Chances had to be earned during the first-half and it was on the 44th minute when Kiefer Scott breached the Brantwood defence to score for the Youth. The second half saw the Youth defend their goal advantage and Brantwood push forward in search of the equaliser. Time was then running down and the game then went into stoppage time when Kiefer Scott scored his second goal in the game on the 93rd minute ensuring three very valuable points for his team.

Referee Mr. Russell Kennedy

COOKSTOWN RBL          2              NEWINGTON YC Res       2

Newington went down to ten men in the 3rd minute of this game after having a player sent off by the Referee. RBL went in front when Simon Gates scored but Michael Ardle cancelled this out after he equalised for Newington. RBL went on front for a second time when Jonny Ferguson scored but Newington hit back with Michael Ardle scoring his second goal. Half-time saw the teams still level and though there were chances for both teams no more goals were scored.            Referee Mr. Brian Leitch

SPORT & LEISURE SWIFTS RES                 5              FC WHITEABBEY              3

This was a good entertaining game played on a fast 3g surface which allowed both teams to spray the ball around. Whiteabbey went in front after Gerard O’Neil scored then doubled their advantage when Ryan O’Neil scored. Half-time was almost reached when Marty McCann converted a penalty for the Sports. Sports were back level early in the second half after Ciaran McKissock scored then took the lead after Ciaran McKissock scored his second goal. Paul McCann scored to put the Sports two ahead before Gerard Reynolds pulled a goal back for Whiteabbey. Whiteabbey then went all-out for the equaliser but got caught with Ronan Carroll nipping in to score number five for the Sports.   Referee Mr. Trevor Higgins
